The show returned in January 2015 to an average audience of 9.2 million viewers. It won TV Choice awards for Best Drama Series and Best Actor (David Tennant) in 2015.
David Tennant returned as Alec Hardy while Olivia Colman resumed her role as Ellie Miller, last seen with her life in shreds as husband Joe confessed to murdering local schoolboy Danny Latimer in their home town.
Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan, who play Danny’s parents Beth and Mark Latimer, returned to their roles, alongside Arthur Darvill as vicar Paul Coates, Carolyn Pickles as newspaper editor Maggie Radcliffe and a host of other Broadchurch regulars.
The new series introduced new characters played by legendary Emmy nominated film and television actress Charlotte Rampling; Academy Award, BAFTA and Golden Globe nominated Marianne Jean-Baptiste; James D’Arcy (Cloud Atlas, Hitchcock, Jupiter Ascending); Eve Myles (Torchwood, Merlin, Little Dorrit) and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Bad Education, Blandings, Glue).
